How many restrooms does a concert need?
A concert is the hardest usage curve in this trade. Everyone arrives inside a 45 minute window, nobody moves during the headline set, and then the entire crowd needs a toilet in the 20 minutes before the support act finishes. Sizing to the average fails. Size to the interval.

Alcohol pushes those numbers up by roughly 20 percent, and a bar-heavy show should be planned at the top of the band rather than the middle. Accessibility sits on top: the 2010 ADA Standards at section 213.2 Exception 4 require 5 percent of the single-user units in each cluster, minimum one, to comply with section

The South Philadelphia venues and the load-in window
Lincoln Financial Field, Citizens Bank Park and the Wells Fargo Center sit together in a lot-heavy district where the ground is not the problem. Asphalt is level, firm and takes a trailer without complaint. The constraint is the schedule.
Concert load-in at a stadium or arena runs to a clock that belongs to production, and a sanitation truck that arrives outside its slot waits, or leaves. Practically:
- Ask production for the delivery window in writing and pass it to us when you book
- Overflow units for lot and tailgate areas go in earliest, before the lots open
- Back of house units go in with the rest of the compound build
- Nothing gets serviced once the crowd is in, so mid-show servicing has to happen before doors
- Collection is usually the morning after, not the same night
- Accessible units go in with the first banks, since the 2010 ADA Standards at section 403.5.1 require 36 inches of clear route width and a crowded lot leaves none
That last one matters for pricing. A same-night collection is an out of hours movement and it is charged as one.

Back of house and artist areas
Front of house takes volume. Back of house takes quality, and it is a much smaller order. A 2 stall trailer or a 4 stall near the artist compound covers the touring party, with deluxe flushable units for crew positions further out.
A trailer needs a level pad, a dedicated 110 volt 20 amp circuit on manufacturer specs, and either an onboard freshwater tank of roughly 100 gallons or a hose connection. On a stadium lot all three are straightforward. On a park site none of them are, and that is when the luxury trailer conversation turns into a generator conversation. What does servicing look like on a concert?
ANSI/PSAI Z4.3 sets the baseline service interval at once a week for a unit taking about 10 users a day. A concert unit passes that inside half an hour, which is why the standard is a floor rather than a plan. The tank on a standard cabin holds 60 to 70 gallons and a hard-used unit at a 3,000 person show will fill it.
Because a truck cannot move through a crowd, everything happens either side of the show:
- Delivery and full stock during the build
- A restock and clean immediately before doors, which is the important one
- Nothing during the show, so plan the count to survive without it
- Full pump and clean before collection
If the count is right, the pre-doors service carries the night. If the count is short, no service schedule will save it. That is the whole argument for sizing to the interval.
Do concerts need a portable toilet permit in Philadelphia?
On public ground, yes. Philadelphia issues these through the City of Philadelphia Department of Public Health, under its infectious waste program, on the application that also covers holding tanks. Not through a streets or transportation department, which is where touring production coordinators look first and find nothing.
At the big South Philadelphia venues the promoter or venue usually handles permissions as part of the event package, so check who is filing before you file. Concert restroom questions
How late can I add units?Up to about 48 hours before doors on standard units, subject to what is in the yard. Same day requests go to emergency porta potty rental.
Can units go on asphalt?Yes, and asphalt is the best surface for them. Level, firm, drains, and it meets the ADA 302.1 requirement for a firm, stable and slip resistant surface without any help.
What about a show in Fairmount Park instead?Different job. Soft ground, narrow service roads and canopy on the approach. Mats and an earlier delivery usually solve it. See festival restroom rental.
Do you handle the waste containers as well?Yes. Roll off dumpsters for the compound and dumpster sizing if you are not sure what to order.
