What we rent and what we do not
Say the difference plainly, because most searches for a camping porta potty are looking for the other thing. A camping cassette toilet is a small self-contained unit with a 5 to 6 gallon tank that you buy, carry in a car and empty yourself. We do not rent those, and no rental company sensibly does, because the handling cost exceeds the purchase price.
What we deliver is a standard portable toilet, a self-contained cabin roughly 44 by 48 inches on the ground and about 90 inches tall, with a 60 to 70 gallon holding tank. It gets delivered on a truck, serviced by a truck and collected by a truck. That makes it the right answer for a group campout, a scout camp, a family reunion or an event with camping attached, and the wrong answer for two people in a tent.
How many units does a campout need?
One unit per 10 campers over a weekend is the working figure, which is far tighter than an event ratio because campers are on site continuously rather than for an afternoon.

Add accessibility on top. The 2010 ADA Standards, section 213.2 Exception 4, require 5 percent of the single-user units in each cluster and never fewer than one to comply with section 603, so a campsite that splits units between two areas needs an accessible unit in each. What about washing and showers?
Toilets alone are half a camp. A handwashing station is a self-contained unit with a foot-pump or push-tap, a freshwater tank and a greywater tank, typically around 22 gallons of fresh water on common two-station models. That is roughly 150 to 200 handwashes before it needs refilling, so one station per two toilets is the usual pairing on a campsite.
For anything longer than a weekend, a shower trailer changes the camp. It needs a level pad, a water source and power, which on a campground usually exists and on a field usually does not. A portable sink with a larger tank suits the cooking area, and hand sanitizer stands supplement rather than replace real washing.
Where do people camp around Philadelphia?
Not inside the city, and that is worth being direct about. Philadelphia is dense and rowhouse-built across most of its area, with no campgrounds inside the line. Wissahickon Valley Park and Fairmount Park carry enormous day-use recreation and are not places to pitch a tent.
The camping is in the ring. Bucks and Chester counties on the Pennsylvania side, Burlington County on the New Jersey side, plus scout reservations, church camps and private campgrounds scattered through both. Access on a campsite
Campsite access fails differently from city access. There are no parked cars, and there is also no paving.
- A service truck needs a firm track, and a wet grass field in April will not carry one
- Placement should be within reach of the track, not at the pretty end of the meadow
- The 2010 ADA Standards at section 302.1 require a firm, stable and slip resistant surface, which soft turf is not, so accessible units go on the hardest ground available or on mats
- Gates and cattle grids decide what size truck can come in, so measure the gate rather than describing it
- Overhanging branches on the track catch a unit on the back of a truck at about 10 feet
Walk the track before you book. A campsite that a car reaches easily is not automatically a campsite a loaded truck reaches. The placement guide covers the clearances.
Do I need a permit for a campsite toilet?
On private land, no. Campgrounds, scout reservations and private fields need no city permit for a portable toilet, though the landowner will have placement rules and the campground may have its own waste arrangements already.
Inside Philadelphia, any unit on public ground goes through the City of Philadelphia Department of Public Health under its infectious waste program, on the application that also covers holding tanks, rather than through a streets or transportation department.
