Trailer or porta potty for a wedding?
A restroom trailer is a towable unit with flushing china toilets, running water, mirrors, lighting and climate control. A porta potty is a self-contained cabin with a holding tank and no plumbing. For a wedding those are not two grades of the same thing. They are two different decisions.
Take the trailer for guests. Take standard units for the crew, the parking area and the far edge of the site. That split is what keeps the budget sane, because a 2 stall trailer covers a great deal of the guest load while two standard units at $125 to $400 each handle everyone else.
A luxury trailer adds finishes, sound and better fixtures. A deluxe flushable unit is the middle ground for a smaller back garden wedding where a trailer will not fit down the side return.
How many stalls does a wedding need?
Plan one stall per 50 guests for a reception running four to five hours, then add for the length. Weddings run long and people drink, and alcohol raises usage by around 20 percent, so a wedding sizes closer to a festival than to a corporate lunch.

What does a trailer need on site?
More than couples expect, and this is the question that changes venues. Manufacturer specs on a two stall want a dedicated 110 volt 20 amp circuit, roughly 100 gallons of onboard freshwater or a garden hose connection, and a level pad the tow vehicle can back onto.
That means:
- A tow path wide enough for a pickup and a trailer, not just for a car
- Level ground, because an unlevel trailer will not drain properly
- Power within reach, or a generator and fuel budgeted in
- Somewhere out of the photographs but within a short walk of the tent
- A route the trailer can leave by, which people forget until midnight
Philadelphia adds one more: on a rowhouse block or a narrow Fairmount Park service road, the tow path is the whole conversation. We would rather tell you in advance that a trailer will not reach the ceremony lawn than discover it on the Friday. The placement guide covers the clearances.
Weddings at Philadelphia venues
Fairmount Park carries a lot of the outdoor wedding load in this city, and it is where placement gets interesting. Long service roads, mature tree canopy, and stretches where the only firm level ground is the path itself. Penn's Landing has the river as a backdrop and turf that softens fast after rain, so mats belong in the budget for a spring date.
Back garden weddings on a rowhouse block are their own puzzle. The side return is often under 4 feet wide and a standard cabin is roughly 44 by 48 inches, so it goes through, just. A trailer does not. In those cases the answer is usually two deluxe flushable units in the rear yard and an early delivery before the block fills with parked cars.
What about the vendor crew?
Caterers, band, photographers and hire staff are on site for hours before the first guest arrives and after the last one leaves. A single standard unit near the catering tent solves it for $125 to $400 across the weekend, and it stops the guest trailer being used as a staff facility all afternoon.

Do I need a permit for wedding restrooms in Philadelphia?
On private property, no. On any city ground, including a Fairmount Park event site, yes. Philadelphia issues portable toilet permits through the Department of Public Health under its infectious waste program, on the application that also covers holding tanks, rather than through a streets or transportation department. That routing is unusual and it is the single thing planners from out of town get wrong.
