How much is a porta potty rental for a day?
Typical Philadelphia market ranges for a single day, reviewed July 2026. Ranges, not a quote.
| Unit | Typical day rate |
|---|---|
| Standard | $100 to $350 |
| Deluxe flushing | $150 to $400 |
| ADA accessible | $175 to $400 |
| 2 stall trailer | $400 to $1,200 |
The spread inside each row is wider than it looks on any other duration, and the reason is entirely local. A driveway drop in Bensalem at 14.8 miles takes the driver a fraction of the time of a one-way rowhouse block in Bella Vista where the truck has one workable approach and a narrow window to use it. On a one day rental there is no long term to spread that time across, so it lands on the invoice.
Why is the daily rate so high compared to a month?
Because you are paying for two truck movements, not for time. Delivery and collection are identical pieces of work at one day or at six months, and they typically account for $50 to $150 of any Philadelphia booking on their own.
Run the numbers across durations on a $200 standard unit:
| Term | Typical total | Cost per day |
|---|---|---|
| One day | $100 to $350 | $100 to $350 |
| Weekend | $125 to $250 | about $60 to $125 |
| One week | $130 to $500 | about $19 to $71 |
| One month | $125 to $325 | about $4 to $11 |
A month at $200 works out near $6.50 a day. A single day at $200 is $200 a day. Nothing about the plastic changed. If a job is going to run past about ten days, ask for a monthly rate rather than stacking daily ones, and see the full cost breakdown for how the lines separate.
When a one day rental is still the right choice
Plenty of jobs genuinely need one day, and paying the premium is correct:
- A block party or street festival with a fixed permit window
- A 5k or charity run using route placements for a morning
- A single day shoot, where a film set order arrives and leaves the same day
- A one day pour or crane lift where the crew doubles for a day
- A wedding at a venue that will not allow anything to stay overnight
- A county fair or school field day
What links them is that the site cannot hold the unit beyond the day, not that the customer is trying to save money. If the site can hold it, a weekend usually costs about the same as a Saturday alone.
Space planning matters more on a one day order than a long one, because everything arrives at once. A standard cabin is roughly 44 by 48 inches on manufacturer figures with a height near 92 inches, so a bank of six needs about 25 feet of frontage plus room for the service truck to stand alongside.

Ask for the weekend price before you book a single day
This is the one piece of advice that saves real money on this page. In the Philadelphia market a weekend band of $125 to $250 frequently overlaps the single day band of $100 to $350, because Saturday delivery and Monday collection can sit on routes that already exist while a same-day round trip cannot.
So the question to put to any company is this: what does it cost if you collect on Monday instead of Saturday night. Sometimes the answer is nothing, sometimes it is a small collection charge, and occasionally the weekend is genuinely cheaper. Ask before you commit to porta potty rental prices per day that assume a same-day pickup.
Where the site will not allow an overnight, say so early. Venue rules at Lincoln Financial Field, Citizens Bank Park and the Wells Fargo Center are set by the venue, not by us, and they drive collection timing more than the paperwork does.

Does a one day rental include a service visit?
It includes the tank being pumped when the unit is collected, which for a single day is usually all it needs. A standard holding tank runs 60 to 70 gallons on manufacturer specs, and a unit serving 50 people over four hours will not come close to filling it.
Where a day rental does need a service visit is high volume. A festival unit taking continuous traffic for eight hours can fill, and a full 60 gallon tank carries over 500 pounds of waste at 8.34 pounds per gallon. ANSI/PSAI Z4.3, the industry standard for non-sewered waste disposal systems, treats weekly service as the baseline for ordinary use, which a busy event day is not. One mid-event pump-out beats two extra units every time. See how often units are cleaned and whether they smell.

How many units for a one day event?
One unit per 50 guests over four hours, plus 15 to 20 percent where alcohol is served, plus accessible units. The 2010 ADA Standards require at section 213.2 Exception 4 that where portable units are clustered, 5 percent of each cluster and at least one must comply, and an accessible cabin is about 62 inches square because section 304.3.1 requires a 60 inch turning space.
On a jobsite instead of an event, OSHA 1926.51(c)(1) requires one toilet for 20 or fewer workers, then one toilet seat and one urinal per 40 workers above that, counted by heads on site rather than by contractor. Use the calculator, the OSHA guide and the ADA requirements page.
Can you deliver and collect on the same day in Philadelphia?
Often yes, and it depends almost entirely on the block. A same-day round trip needs a clear approach at both ends of the day, which is straightforward in Northeast Philadelphia or a King of Prussia car park and considerably harder in Point Breeze at 6pm on a Saturday.
What helps:
- Book at least two working days ahead where you can
- Give the block and the side of the street, not just the address
- Tell us the exact end time, and who will be there
- Keep the approach clear, including the space in front of the placement
- Flag anything overhead under 12 feet
Re-delivery or a failed collection after a blocked approach is normally chargeable, which is why the access conversation happens first. The placement guide covers the details and emergency rental covers genuine same-day urgency.
Permits for a single day placement
A day is still public ground if it is on public ground. Philadelphia issues portable toilet permits through the Department of Public Health, under its infectious waste program, on the application that covers portable toilets and holding tanks together, and it applies to events with portable units regardless of duration. It is not a streets department process here, which catches out organisers running a one day event on a tight turnaround.
Private property placements do not need it. Read the permit requirements before you finalise a one day event date, because the filing is the part with a lead time, not the unit.
Questions about daily porta potty rental
Is there a minimum charge?Effectively yes. The two truck trips set a floor under any booking, which is why very short rentals cannot be cheap.
Does a day mean 24 hours? It means a delivery and a collection, scheduled around routes. Ask for the actual windows rather than assuming a clock.
Can I extend a day rental?Yes, and it is cheap. Call before the collection is dispatched.
Do you charge more for a weekend collection?Sometimes, as a separate line. It should be shown as one rather than folded into the unit price. See the cost page.
Do you cover the New Jersey side for one day jobs?Yes, Camden at 7.3 miles and Cherry Hill at 13.6. The bridge sets the window. See service areas.
